Drive-In Delights: The 4 Best Car Movies We’ve Seen! – Atlanta, GA

Drive In Movies

Here at Thornton Road Hyundai, we love cars, especially the Hyundais we have here on the lot like the Elantra, Genesis, Tucson, and Sonata.  Our cars are an integral part of our daily life, so of course we love everything about them – driving them, cleaning them, talking about them, and even watching them on the big screen!  That’s right, we’re so enthralled with anything and everything car related that we have our own collection of classic movies where cars play the leading role. We’d like to take a break for a short moment to share our four favorite movies with you, just in case you were trying to decide what to watch this weekend:

Cannonball Run
This 1981 movie starred the talents of Burt Reynolds, Roger Moore, and Farrah Fawcett, among others, and it was all about an eccentric cross-country car race. The racers are in teams, and in every car imaginable from an Ambulance to a Ferrari, and everything in between. Jackie Chan and Dom DeLuise also have roles in this film, keeping the comedy and the action happening!

This 2006 animated film is a kids movie, sure, but the theme –finding the true meaning of friendship and family – is one that we never tire of watching! The hidden references are a gem for adults, and the many Steve McQueen references are golden.  With Owen Wilson as the lead voice of Lightning McQueen, and Paul Newman as the grouchy Doc Hudson, we think Cars is a win-win all around.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Yep, we went there.  This 1968 Musical about a magical car is actually a well used favorite on our shelves.  Written by Ian Fleming (it was a novel, first, as all great movies are!) the lead is played by Dick Van Dyke as Caractacus Potts, and it begins during the European Grand Prix in the early 1900’s. Then things get weird, in a wonderful way!

The Love Bug
We’re taking it right back to 1968 again, The Love Bug is the first in a series of films produced by Walt Disney starring Herbie, an anthropomorphic 1963 VW Beetle. Based on a book called Car, Boy, Girl by Gordon Buford, this film, and all the ones after, are lighthearted comedic romps centered around Herbie and his owner. This makes our list as one of the best car movies because we need a bit of a comedic break, every once in awhile!

Here at Thornton Road Hyundai, we may carry cars such as the Elantra, Genesis, Tucson, and Sonata, but we can definitely appreciate anything on four wheels. Stop in today and let us know what your favorite car movies are!
